Welcome to Miles's online portfolio

mile5.net is the online portfolio of Miles Davies, a freelance interface designer. I am London based, and specialise in designing and building accessible websites with a focus on good design and usability. I am currently the senior user experience architect for Ioko where I am involved in everything from pitching to requirements engineering, persona development, information architecture to usability testing for clients such as Channel 4 and Universal Music.

Prior to working at Ioko I have worked as a Senior User Experience Designer for Isotrak, Gloabl Beach, and as an Interaction Designer for the Nature Publishing Group where I was part of the 2008 Webby Award winning team for sites across Nature's domain. I received an IMA Outstanding achievement award for my design work on the Nature Reports site. As well as information architecture and usability testing, I was also responsible for design and coding, hand coding html that validate to w3c xhtml strict requirements and have a strong knowledge of accessibility.

In May 2008 I completed a Masters Degree in Human Centered Systems at City University in London. I studied the following topics: Advanced Topics in Human Computer Interaction, evaluation of systems, human-computer interaction design, inclusive design, requirements engineering, research, evaluation and communication skills, systems specification and multimedia. I received a prize for the best dissertation in the computing department for my year. My dissertation was a study of various user testing verbal protocols. I conducted an empirical usability evaluation of two of the Nature Publishing Group’s websites, working with the Morae usability evaluation software and Tobii eye tracking equipment and Clearview software.
